Listening to the Quiet Voice Within: A Guide to Discernment

There’s a voice inside you that doesn’t shout. It whispers. Nudges. Stirs. It’s often drowned out by the noise of what others want, expect, or assume. But it’s always there—your inner wisdom, waiting to be heard. “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:21).

Listening to that voice—really listening—requires stillness, honesty, and self-trust. It’s the foundation of discernment: knowing what’s right for you, even if it doesn’t make sense to anyone else. “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). This is one of my favorite Scriptures because it reminds me that His peace is supernatural—it steadies my emotions, puts them back into place, and restores perspective. I’ve learned to rely on that stillness before I choose to move forward. And Scripture promises, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God… and it will be given to him” (James 1:5).

At Seek, I help clients reconnect with that inner voice. Not to escape their lives, but to live them more fully—aligned with their values and their truth. If you’re unsure what’s next, try pausing. Breathing. Asking gently: What do I know deep down that I’ve been afraid to admit? Because often, “The truth will set you free” (John 8:32), and that quiet, honest answer is the very first step forward.
