In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick famously revealed the double-helix structure of DNA—ushering in a new era of science and changing how we understand life itself. Since then, decades of groundbreaking research have turned what once seemed like science fiction into everyday reality. From genetic testing to ancestry tracing, what lives in our cells is now shaping how we see ourselves, our families, and even our identities.
Today, DNA isn’t just a scientific tool—it’s a cultural force. Home test kits promise insights into everything from our heritage to our health. Social media is filled with reunion stories, shocking discoveries, and heartfelt reckonings. At the same time, ethical questions around privacy, truth, and belonging are rising to the surface.
For me, this isn't just a topic of interest—it's personal. At age 57, I discovered the identity of my biological father through a DNA test. It was a moment of both revelation and rupture—one that rewrote part of my story and called me into deep reflection, healing, and growth. That experience is part of what led me to become a lifestyle and wellness coach.

Behind every DNA discovery is a person navigating complex emotions—grief, confusion, anger, even joy. These moments deserve care, conversation, and community. I cannot overemphasize how important tending to the ‘moments’ are. Many times, the discovery is what is expected—and, the companies that promote the product do not prepare you for what you might find. My discovery involved a mountain of loss and grief; anger and a slew of other emotions nearly swallowed me whole. Navigating a whole new identify is NO JOKE!
Through the help of a godly counselor, she taught me strategies and provided resources that guided me to place I am today. If you have experienced this type of trauma, please seek professional help. If you feel that you have progressed through the initial states well, you may just need someone to coach you through the occasional challenges.
At Seek, I walk alongside others facing their own revelations, helping them move toward acceptance, forgiveness, empathy, and a more grounded sense of identity. You are not alone in this.
Wishing you love, peace, and joy!
